If lost, return to Luca Balsa,
AKA the Count of Monte Cristo
"When can I create my great invention?"
Name: Luca Balsa (Myself)
Canon: Identity V
Essence: Edmond Dantes
Story: The Count of Monte Cristo
Notes: - I probably won't forget how I fell from grace back "home," but I could detail that elsewhere just in case.
- Found Storyteller's book in locker, agreed to help. Now I'm here.
- Apperently I can paralyze people with... Black electricity? Not sure how this relates to the original story.

"You remember the Storyteller contacting you through the book, right? That's how it usually starts."
Name: Ryotaro Dojima
Canon: Persona 4 Golden

"Fuck, right, sorry. I was trying to not be an asshole here."
Name: Karkat Vantas
Canon: Homestuck
Essence: Sun Wukong
Story: Journey to the West
Notes: Passionate about "troll romance" (see Day 3 entry ). However, he tends to write in all capital letters and uses a harsh tone in his ramblings.
He doesn't seem to enjoy many "human" things.
Apperently he has a habit of using a harsh tone when talking to others, and he's quick to put himself down for it. I don't think he's all that bad, especially since he tries to look out for the well being of those he trusts.

Essence: The Pied Piper
Story: The Pied Piper
Notes: Claims to be the inspiration for the Arthur Conan Doyle novels, but I have reason to suspect he might just be a lunatic who believes himself to be Sherlock Holmes. He's got the eccentricity down, but his deductions tend to be entirely off and I believe his memory is even worse than mine!
Note: Might be keeping a cannibalistic plant as a pet.

"Collecting lost fragments of memory is terribly difficult, and I know it first hand."
Name: Alice Lidell
Canon: American McGee's Alice
Essence: Dorothy Gale
Story: The Wizard of Oz
Notes: Probably the strongest woman I know, mentally. She's been through a devastating fire, horrid scandals, and I think a stay at an asylum? Yet, she was somehow able to save her mind as well as her own "Wonderland." Rather impressive, considering everything that's happened to her. If there's anyone in this world I can trust with my life, it's her.

Name: Mabel Pines
Canon: Gravity Falls
Essence: Gretel
Story: Hansel and Gretel
Notes: An excitable young girl from the year 2012... Or another dimension. Hard to tell. She's eager to tell me about the wonders from your world and claims to have experience with time travel and incredibly strange things. I don't know if she has a colorful imagination or not, but I see no harm in humoring her. After all, creativity is what keeps us moving forward as a society.

Journal Entries
DAY 1
Just as it only took a single disaster to fall to ruin, it only took a chance encounter to find myself reborn. Here I am, writing in a magic journal after exploring the luxurious estate that must be my new home. Fitting, considering I had somehow been cast as Edmond Dantes of all people. I need to go back and actually find that book, I can barely remember anything about it other than a man who gets arrested on false charges and comes back for revenge. Though, now that I wrote that I can see how that character manages to suit me, except I still can't remember if I was trying to kill that old man or not. I hope that isn't the case, I don't think I wanted more than to expose him for his thievery if he even was a thief at all.
Anyway, that's finally in the past. I have two goals now; repaying the Storyteller person by helping rewrite stories and finally completing my invention. It's still going to take a while to get started on that again. I need my tools, and apparently the treasure I found on my property isn't accepted as payment for the catalog thing. It is good for materials like wires and metal, so I have a portion of that set aside for it. In the meantime, we have to wait for the next draft, so I should look at that commission board to see where I can apply myself. At least I'll finally get paid for busywork! And I love these nice clothes I get to wear instead of that awful uniform and those heavy chains, and the bedroom is more than comfortable. Lovely view of the ocean from here, I can see the main shore from here.
Day 2
I still have no idea where this energy is coming from yet, so I must be careful not to let it attack my peers. Whoever they are.
I think the owls in the library are mostly friendly. Keep them safe for sure.
The cafe in the Index, Hare la Lune(?) does not normally have giant rabbits or cakes that change people's size. They seem to be in a war with the duck cafe across the street.
Day 3?
He allowed me to take notes where everyone can see them. I have the entry earmarked for future reference.
Perhaps I should invest in bookmarks, or something of the sort. I'm a little worried these notes are going to get lost in these endless pages at one point and I'll forget something important.
Entry 4
Apparently people's essences can change on short notice. A number of people here claimed to have done so, though they can't say how it happened.
Entry 5
I don't know if this is how things are normally done, but we'll have to act fast.
Entry 6
According to a passerby named Felix, AKA "the Fox," fixing a story usually involves the Storyteller assigning tasks to aspects. It does not usually involve being swallowed up by the ground.
Note to self, write up a summary of The Count of Monte Cristo when we get back for future reference.
Entry 7
Odd thing I noticed. Apparently, there are actual people out there who just so happen to resemble story characters. There's an Alice Liddell who keeps speaking of saving her own Wonderland and apparently Sherlock Holmes had a hand in penning the adventures of his fictional counterpart. They both got the essences of different characters, and that seems to be the norm.
The catalogue's open again. I should see if I can get my tools back, at least.
Entry 8
Also, buy some new pencils the next time you go to town.
Strange thought came to me as I wrote. "[Schematics are] a permanent record of ideas just waiting to be realized. The only challenge is applying them to reality." I can only imagine my recovery from prison and adjustment to this world's reality may have helped form that philosophy, but something tells me there's more to it than I think. I will be dedicating a portion of this journal to recording incidents like this. Perhaps if I write enough of these down, I can finally remind myself of what I lost.
After all, I've found it difficult to continue where I left off after spending so much time imprisoned.
Entry 9
[ Then the following is scrawled in neater handwriting and crossed out: ]
HE SHALL PAY[ Now it's back to normal. ]
I have no idea who wrote that there. It doesn't seem like my handwriting...
Also, Adachi's essence seems to be the evil queen from Snow White and he can poison foods. He also seems prone to commiting mass murder out of boredom... Incredibly disturbing.
Entry 10 (Frankenhyde Log 1)
Once again, my luck astounds me. While I understand I probably would have never been able to return home with a fresh start, the city I find myself in seems close enough to it. Perhaps if the locals were human and the setting had more color, it would have felt just like I was back where I started with nothing dragging me down but my damned memory.
Now's my chance. I've signed up for the first scene as Victor Frankenstein. Apparently I'm supposed to be competing against Henry Jekyll in a college level science competition. Materials will be provided for us, so I finally have the means to work on my experiment and a place exhibit it!
I just need to remember all the details. I hope I still have enough in my memory to work off of.
Entry 11 (Frankenhyde log 2)
Someone is sending people horrible and possibly dangerous gifts, but there's no way to tell who they're coming from. I don't have a good feeling about this...
But at least the deer seem harmless enough. They only attack people who they deem to be bad, and they seem docile around me. Perhaps that might be some comfort...
Now that I've read over my previous entry, I'm beginning to wonder if I should continue work on my invention when we get back to the Index. It should be a great deal safer there, and I do happen to have plenty of room to work with back home. I think.
Entry 12 (Frankenhyde Log 3)
According to one Mabel Pines, the future is incredibly strange. Either that, or she's from another dimension entirely. See Public Entry 1 for details.
Entry 13 (Frankenhyde Log 4)
Not only that, but it looks like the entire story is falling apart! Literally! I'm worried we might slip through the cracks and be eaten alive in here. There must be some way to patch things up.
Entry 14 (Frankenhyde Log 5)
He's also warned that Kazuma is incredibly powerful and dangerous right now, due to his essence being Jekyll/Hyde. Perhaps stay clear of the man until he calms down?
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS MEASURES
- Do NOT let the Erasers overwhelm you. They will attempt to kill you and you will not come back. I know this sounds odd, but apparently death isn't usually too much of a problem here?
- On that note, make sure you have your sword on you in case of an ambush.
I'll keep an eye out for Alice Liddell, Karkat Vantias, and Mabel Pines. Mabel may be adventurous, but she is still a child. Vantias expressed concern for my wellbeing earlier so I should check in on him. And Alice... I know she's more than capable of defending herself but I can't help but worry.
TO-DO (Long Term)
- Order my tool belt with the tools in it back from the catalogue (This feels silly)- Figure out what I need for wiring/lightbulbs/etc. and see who I could commission the parts from
- Actually, my home could be improved with electric lights. I should try to fix that.
- Try to remember exactly what I needed for that experiment. Safety equipment included.
Possible memories?
Minor Objectives:
- Recall what my family was like.
- Recall life before prison and/or my apprenticeship with the inventor.
- Recall any evidence concerning the conflict between the inventor and I. While I doubt it really matters here, knowing the truth of that matter would bring me peace of mind.
Entry 1
Incident: Liddell and I were discussing written reminders when the conversation suddenly went like this;
A: [...] nothing like schematics, just little memories once held dear.
L: Indeed, a permanent record of ideas just waiting to be realized. The only challenge is applying them to reality.
I expressed confusion at what the context of I wrote. Liddell suggests this would make sense later, but sympathizes with my frustrations. That is what inspired me to write this section of the journal in the first place.
Entry 2
Incident: The latest story we're meant to repair is set in a fabricated world that bears some resemblance to the place I came from. Although there are a few things that would not be out of place in a Jules Verne novel, the whole city seems oddly familiar, as dark and foreboding as it is.
There's a large banner advertising a science fair not far from where we're all staying. Whenever I set eyes on that advert, I can't help but imagine a large convention hall full of curious patrons and remarkable inventions. The very thought gives me hope and reminds me of happier days before that dreadful accident.
This is the moment. I think there was a task involving the two scientists competing at such a fair. That must be my chance to finally prove to everyone I still have potential to achieve great things. I just need to remember the details of that invention. I know I can, it's just on the tip of my tongue I can feel it.
[ The rest of the entry consists of disjointed notes and sketches. It looks like he's trying to design some kind of electrical machine. ]
Entry 3
Incident: My partner in this act was a rather troublesome child who attempted to tamper with the machine. I can't exactly fault him, for children tend to be curious, but it did bring to mind my prior apprenticeship with A. Laurence
ALVA LAWRENCE
That must have been the man's name! Or close enough! Perhaps I should ask the Storyteller for documents from our prior experiments once this is over. I think I recalled something about giving him my manuscript? I don't remember what I said, exactly...
However, I think I might need to ask the Storyteller for research from Balsa and Laurence when this is over. Would make the construction of my experiment a lot easier.
Entry 4
Incident: I can't explain why, but the setting seemed rather familiar to me... I still don't remember much past the affair with Lorenz, but I think something about someone's father came up?
Miss Liddell's father, actually. Liddell was there herself, reminiscing about her family's past. She was rather well off before a fire ruined everything for her. Can't help but sympathize; Even if I don't know why some things felt familiar with me or what exact status I had before prison, I imagine the pain of losing everything in an instant must have been hard on her as well.
At least she's a rather strong willed person. And a good dancer, I might add. Still have to figure out what that dance was called, but that's another day.
